Original Fiction Term 2: Short Stories Short StoriesOriginal Fiction Term 2: Short Stories by *DarkCatXX
Since you could (ironically) fill novels with information on how to write short stories, and short stories were also covered in last semester's classes, we'll keep our focus here relatively small. Today we will look into different ways how to think up of short stories and some simple tips and techniques when writing them. Sound good? Great! Let's begin!
Depending on who you ask, a short story is basically a story you can read easily in one sitting. I've seen them anywhere from 2-40 pages! The normal consensus is usually 4-10, especially in schools and creative writing courses.
Short stories, unlike postcards, usually ha

And now we get into the writing forms section of our class! So exciting!
There are so many forms of writing out there, small and large, that are great to experiment with to work on different areas of your writing voice. Let's start with a neat little type of writing called the Postcard story.
We are often told less is more, and that's the heart of this form of writing. A Postcard story is a story containing only 100-500 words at most. Some even contain less then 50! However, the main consensus is usually about 250.
These stories help authors to experiment with saying a lot in only a few words. The

I'm sure you must have all heard the old writers saying, 'Show, don't tell' at least once. Its usually something new writers skip out on, or don't understand too well so what does it mean?
Basically, it says that when writing, rather then dictating what's happening all the time, show it through action, dialogue, and descriptions, so the reader can experience it rather then just hear about it. It helps them become part of the action, and therefore, get hooked into the story. Here's an example from one of

Term 2 Original Fiction Class: Dialouge The Art of DialogueTerm 2 Original Fiction Class: Dialouge by *DarkCatXX
It's our second lesson already! Let's jump right to it, shall we :3?
Dialogue is an interesting aspect of writing, as it can tell us so much about our characters. What they say, how they say it, who they say what to, and what they DON'T say all impacts a story. While I personally find dialogue one of the most fun parts of writing, I'm surprised how often I hear people say they dislike it, finding it hard to make realistic and just plan out overall. Here's hoping I can help reverse that thinking!
First, let's quickly go over some grammar. I find many people often forget the rules related with dialogue and quotation
